The Berkshire based business, established in 1999, uses a self-developed billing and operational platform to provide its services, principally focused on inbound telephony and associated services. Founded by brothers Mark and Tony Jenkins alongside a partner, now retired, the semi-automated platform attracts a wide breadth of variety across its customer base, allowing access to tailored services including call recording, international services and virtualised call centre operations. “The integration of Callagenix into Chess, will not only allow our customers to continue to benefit from the high levels of service to which they have become accustomed, but also provide the added flexibility of them being able to easily add additional services and further streamline their own digital transformation,” Mark Jenkins, co-founder of Callagenix explained. “We are delighted the services we have constantly evolved over the past 20 years in building and maintaining Callagenix have been recognised by Chess, and that our longstanding customer-base will continue to be fully supported under the new ownership structure.” David Pollock, Chess Founder and Executive Chairman, commented: David Pollock, Executive Chairman of Chess “The acquisition of Callagenix enhances our hybrid telephony proposition. Since joining Evolution Capital, Sam has led multiple transactions achieving truly outstanding outcomes for our clients.Additionally, leveraging his prior experience at PwC he has meticulously redesigned our “Buy Side” service strategy and is positioned to launch a new suite of services in FY23/24. Our new strategy will provide a greater relevance and higher levels of analysis, presentation and advice for management teams of mid-market IT consolidators and investment houses. In addition to continuing ‘in our search of transactional excellence’ and developing‘best in class’ sector services alongside his fellow and long-standing company director Duncan Gregory, Sam will assume pro-active responsibility for budgetary planning and resourcing,and specifically with “buy side” service development and delivery. Firstly, M&A advisor Fraser Dixon competed in this year’s Dulux Race to the King, a 100km ultramarathon set in the tranquil South Downs. The race is not just an extraordinary opportunity to explore the Downs, but also a chance to raise funds for Chestnut Tree House, a Sussex-based charity which provides support to children, young people and their families who have life-limiting conditions.Thank you to everyone who supported Fraser, be that by donating to the cause or by standing on the roadside with BCCA-charged water, your support went a long way, and to have raised £500 for Chestnut Tree House on top of tackling, what some may argue to be a truly gruelling challenge, is a huge accomplishment. “I am delighted to have raised a fantastic amount for Chestnut Tree House. The combined weeks/miles of training in preparation were almost as gruelling as the event itself, but knowing my participation would benefit such a wonderful charity was reason enough to continue to push myself.” Fraser Dixon, M&A Advisor. Katie, our newest member, and latest numerical talent to join the Transaction services team also took on the epic Three Peaks challenge in the western Highlands of Scotland this weekend. Tackling Ben Nevis first, and working her way down, Katie and her group conquered the three peaks in a mere weekend, proving that it is mind over matter. “There’s nothing like a mountain to put everything into perspective and make you feel alive. Climbing the 3 biggest in Scotland, England and Wales respectively in under 24 hours certainly required preparation, resilience and, most of all, teamwork. Deal volumes typically drop in the summer months and have so far remained fairly typical in our sector, with only capital markets showing signs of trading weakness and a real fall, but how the final half of the year pans out could well be an early indicator for trading figures as we enter 2023. Consolidation in the ICT space remains the driving force, with our ‘Christmas Card’ list of trade buyers carefully acquiring synergistic targets to further their competitive edge. Despite a slight downturn in mid-market activity, Private Equity shows similar confidence with the sale of Beechtree backed BCN Group to ECI Partners, for a reported £125m, making particular headlines in our space. While there may perhaps be indications of longer term concern when looking at wider mid-market activity, in Evolution Capitals focus area of the lower mid-market, where turnover typically ranges between £5m and £50 million, there is still a healthy amount of buoyancy and certainly enough action to excite buyers and sellers alike. Despite the macro economy, investors are still carrying dry powder, even with the flurry of transaction activity last year and, before that, in the closing moments of 2020.
